CIL redevelops foreclosed and abandoned properties for purchase by low and moderate income homeowners. While some properties require extensive abatement of lead and asbestos, many have superbly crafted woodworking details, which are restored to their original glory whenever possible. CIL partners with neighborhoods, cities and towns to revitalize distressed properties and create new housing opportunities for families of low income.
CIL has taken a leading role in Connecticut’s implementation of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). An allocation of $25million was made to the state for the redevelopment of foreclosed and abandoned properties for use by low and moderate income homeowners and renters. CIL has received approximately $4 million of this allocation and has been working in Hartford, Meriden, and New Haven as a nonprofit developer.
